Service Desk Automation: AI for Internal IT Support

Different audience, same underlying pattern as customer-facing support: an employee asks for a password reset, software access, or a hardware request, and an agent resolves it directly against your real IT systems instead of opening a ticket that sits in a queue for two days.

How this differs from customer support automation

The workflow shape is similar to customer-facing chatbot development, but the systems and the stakes are different. A service desk agent typically needs write access to identity and access-management systems (resetting a password, granting a software license) — a genuinely higher-permission action than a customer support agent issuing a refund, and one that needs the same scoped-permission, audit-logged discipline covered in every agent build here, taken more seriously given what's at stake.

What actually happens

An employee message ("I'm locked out," "I need access to the design tool," "my laptop won't connect to VPN") gets triaged against known ticket categories, checked against the actual identity/access system for what's already true (is this a real employee, do they already have access, is this request within policy), resolved directly for the common, low-risk cases, and escalated to IT with full context for anything higher-risk or ambiguous.

What this connects to

Whatever identity provider and ticketing system already run IT — commonly an SSO/identity platform, Jira Service Management or a similar ticketing system, and Slack or Teams as the channel employees already use to ask.

What it costs
